Our first trip to Ringcon and it was very eventful before we even got to the Convention. My day started at 7am in Malta waiting for a flight back to the UK to meet up with Craig then fly on to Cologne/Bonn. Neither of us had considered how far the airport was from Bonn itself so after giving up trying to decipher the train schedule we hopped in a 50 taxi to our hotel. Then the fun really started... They had given our room to someone else! I won't go into the full details suffice to say if you ever attend this event DO NOT STAY in the Hotel Zum Adler in Bad Godesberg.. The street is a better option. So on to the event itself.

Ringcon has evolved from strictly Tolkein related guests to embrace new fantasy and this years show demonstrated that well with the inclusion of a number of actors from HBO's Game Of Thrones.

This was one of the first events in Germany featuring guests from Game of Thrones and there were so many people dressed as characters. We saw at least 10 girls dressed as Daenerys and they were ably supported by Arya, Sansa, Ned and Catelyn Stark, Joffrey, Jaime and Cersei Lannister and even a White Walker.

Some highlights of the weekend were The Kiwi panel with Craig Parker, Mark Ferguson, Lori Dungey and Thomas Robins, Billy Boyd singing Pippin's song, 'Edge of Night' from Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, beautiful. Sean Austin followed by reading one of the last scenes of Samwise in the Return of the King book. Craig Parker being his wonderful self. His energy definitely brought something extra to this convention, what an amazing guy! Mark Ferguson as Maxi Mark and Lori Dungey as Mini Mark. Lori and Mark were the presenters and made the entire experience so much fun.

The Game Of Thrones guys and gals were a big hit and the panel with 5 of them was highly entertaining, although I did wonder at the first question to Natalia which totally ignored the other actors and was Harry Potter related.

The after parties were legendary and the guests could be found mingling with the attendees until the early hours on all 4 nights. The Maritim lays on a decent variety of snack food to keep you ticking over, however the hotel is quite away from any other facilities.

All told, a great weekend with a great group of friends and well worth attending.
